Anyone get drawn for deer ?

No Deer but I got a 6A ML tag. Excited about it but my fam had to back out due to pregnancy. Now it looks like i'm going alone. Waited too long for this tag not to go. Moving to Arkansas in Dec. so this is my last shot. Maybe there is someone here in the same boat as me? Maybe I can meet someone to join me before Nov, arrives? Sad right?

6A in mid to late Nov elk start moving down towards the southern end of the unit (in my experience). You will be hunting after the Oct rifle cow hunt and the elk will be moving a lot through the small ravines. Pick a spot with several (3) tanks within a mile or two and google earth for connected ravines, washes and trails between them. The pressure will have them circling back and forth in the morning. They will have their winter fur, so glass into the north facing wooded areas during the midday when most of the other hunters are back in camp having lunch and taking a siesta. Check out the tanks also at this time and find a spot 100 yds or so away, off a trail about 40-50 yds and hunt until dark. They don't much worry about the sound of trucks moving through but they hate quads and side by sides!

I just mounted a new Leupold Ultimate Slam 3-9 on my CVA V2 LR and ordered up some more 270 BOR LOCK.
I normally shoot 90 grains of 209 but going to crank it up to the 150 max due to the possible distance I will be shooting out to 200 ish yards. I will post the results after getting to the range with targets and chrono results.

Thank you so much for the experienced and GREAT advice! I will do what you advise. That was kind of my plan but you added some more info for me and I really appreciate it! I do not use a quad so i'm good there. Now I just have to figure out what is considered the "southern" part of the unit. lol I will look at the maps and sort it out. I blew a great opportunity in the area I want to start in as mentioned above 10 years ago. A terrible mistake that could have been avoided and it STILL bothers me.. So I thought if I hunted the same area and am successful I would redeem myself. Do you think the Beautiful Bull I mucked up on is still out there? Yeah right! hahaha I have RA now and believe me it's no joke so i'm not the same man I was 10 year ago..but who is right. I will do my best and use an inreach sat should I be hunting alone as I predict. Thanks again Oak!

That's a nice set up! I Have one just like it but I think I will use my CVA Kodiak Pro..Same scope but Older gun. But she does me well at the range.. Got a Cow with it 19 years ago so i'm sentimental about now.. although it's the same gun I had when I mucked up 10 year ago.. decisions, decisions. Good luck to you!
