The other night, we had a power outage and it got me thinking about my food supplies. I want to switch things up a bit instead of just relying on the same old cans. What do y'all like to keep stocked?

I really like to have a variety of options. I still keep some canned goods around since they’re easy and reliable but I also make sure to have rice, pasta, oats and dry beans since they last a long time and give more flexibility. When you add in things like peanut butter, honey, powdered milk, coffeeand some basic spices, you can make meals that are a lot more interesting, even without power. Another trend I’ve noticed lately is the rise of freeze-dried or dehydrated foods. They’re lightweight, have a long shelf life and don’t take up much room. I also keep a small stash of shelf-stable proteins like tuna packets, Spam, and jerky.
