Warning , Your anal collector reactions may trigger if you continue!

That said NO collector level knives were damaged in this experiment.
Both were highly Bubba'd and damaged. In fact, the Ka-Bar was a blade only. The Quartermaster lost a 1/4" of the tip and had grinder marks on it. Neither had a propper sheath.
Pretty much swapmeet junk.
Leather handle kits are available but why bother, they are never gonna be right.
So, the Quartermaster got laminated wood, and the Ka-Bar got Mesquite and brass.

Just giving a second life to these old warhorses.

Where did you have it restored?

Did you cut the Mesquite yourself ?
You betcha Brother ,,,,actually, yes I did.
If it one thing we have in abundance around here it is Mesquite.
I keep a firewood pile and I don't even have a fireplace.
Lots of my gun grips and knife handles come out of the firewood stack.

It's not all pretty wood though. Some of it is as boring as a piece of mud adobe.
I have sawed whole logs into kindling wood looking for that one piece.

I have been cutting and milling mesquite for years.
You are correct about finding good wood.
Especially wood with no checks and cracks.
