At what point did your barrel fail to meet your accuracy standards? I’d love to know how those standards varied between precision shooting and more casual shooting sessions.
My 308 bolt gun needed a rebarrel after roughly 2.5k rds. The accuracy slipped from 0.5 MOA to more than 1.5 MOA. It was still fine for hunting but it just wasn’t cutting it for matches anymore. A borescope showed some throat erosion.
My standards for accuracy change depending on what I'm doing. If I’m shooting steel targets with friends, I don’t care too much. But when I’m trying to shoot tiny groups, suddenly that barrel looks worn out. Funny how that happens.
