When it comes to running an optic on a duty or defensive firearm, what dot size and mounting height have you found to be the most reliable over time? Are you still using iron sights in your sight picture, or have you switched to an optic-only setup? Please include your firearm model, the optic you selected, the type of plate or mount system, and any backup sights you have, so others can see what’s been effective for you.

I’m using an Aimpoint ACRO P-2 on my Glock 19 MOS with the factory plate and it’s spot on for co-witnessing with my suppressor-height sights. The enclosed emitter is great for carry since I don’t have to deal with any lint or debris issues.

I have suppressor sights on my dot equipped pistols. They are usually lower 1/3 of the window.

I do not zero the dot on the front sight, rather in the center of the window so I can see more of the target.

I then figure out where the irons will POI and adjust my POA for that.

For range pistols I often have open emitters. For defensive pistols, they are all enclosed optical sights. I did a training class in the rain and everyone with open emitters lost the use of their sights. Those with enclosed dot sights did not.
