Planning a trip to visit family and thinking about how to handle bringing a firearm along. I'm going through New York State, which complicates things quite a bit. I really don't want to take a longer route just to avoid New York, but I want to make sure I'm compliant with their laws. Anyone else run into this issue? Would love to hear how you managed it and any tips you might have. I'm totally open to suggestions on smarter routes or legal tips.

I can't say I have any knowledge outside of media horror stories, but if me, I would make contact with Arizona Citizens Defense League to see if they had any contacts that could keep you legal.

Search USCCA carry maps. They update the maps/info weekly. You should have all of your questions answered once you check it out.

Don't take this as gospel: I believe you can transport guns across forbidden states like Ill, and NY. #1,if you Have the gun unloaded and out of reach. #2 the gun and ammo should not be in the same location (makes no sense) for example Pack your gun in one suit case, and the ammo in another. If you have a CCW, check reciprocity maps.
You might even call the NRA and ask. I'll bet they will know one way or the other!
