The scout rifle concept is underrated and under-discussed

It is compact, lightweight with moderate power, a forward-mounted optic, and backup irons. Jeff Cooper had it figured out decades ago. I introduced a friend to the concept, and now it’s his go-to rifle and it is still just as practical today.

I just replaced a standard scope set up with a Burris Scout scope (2x7x32) on my 6.5 CM Steyr Scout rifle. I don't know what took me so long to do that. The scout scope set up works really well and even hitting targets at distance (300 yards) is pretty easy (large steel targets but a deer would not be to difficult at 300 yards as the hold over hash marks actually work pretty well).

I have a Ruger Gunsite in 5.56 / .223 with a laminated stock. A nice gun but I have only shot it once in 10 years. Probably will let it go one of these days.
