In tactical situations, fixed blades can be incredibly reliable right off the bat, but folding knives are definitely easier to carry without being noticed. Which type do you find more trustworthy?

I've had experience with both types in different situations, but if we're talking about pure trust in a “no-nonsense, no-time-to-fiddle” moment, I always choose a fixed blade. There's something reassuring about a tool that has no moving parts, no locks that could fail, and no chance of dirt or lint slowing me down. Even a small fixed blade feels more reliable when things get messy.

If a defensive situation arises, a folder is harder to deploy from concealment and to open, especially if the other hand is busy doing other things.

A smaller fixed blade can be hidden pretty well and deployed rapidly. They are also, as no_good68 points out, stone reliable.

I go with the AmTac Northman and Northman X fixed blades. Pricey but really capable.
