I'm just starting to dip my toes into basic gunsmithing and don't want to waste money on stuff I won't actually use. For those with experience, what tools do you consider essential for beginners? Bench blocks, punches, torque drivers? Would love to hear your recommendations before I start building out a kit

Files, proper screw drivers and the rest depends on your definition of gunsmithing?
Yeah, that makes sense, basic stuff like files and screwdrivers is great for starters. I'm thinking more along the lines of small repairs and upgrades, nothing crazy. What do you usually start with first?

A third hand is helpful. I like the Real Avid Master vise. Strong-soft jaws when needed-tilts and turns every which way.

Oh, for sure! A Magna-tip set is clutch, I'd also add punches, a bench block, and some torque drivers. What brand do you swear by?
Yes punches and a bench block good too !! Lyman makes good products they make a nice set of punches with a double side hammer brass and nylon.
Feeler gauges and a electronic caliper is a must too.
