Get some case gauges preferably from Wilson tool and gauge they are great. Yes take your barrel out of your pistol and do a plunk test if your ammo plunks into the chamber the case should ideally be just below the hood. What's your measurement on the crimp ?Just finished my first batch of 9mm handloads and I'm feeling pretty good about it. Using Hodgdon Titegroup and I managed to get the OAL just right. Anyone have tips on optimizing the crimp?
Lee factory crimp die! Well worth it. I load some frangible bullets, and the crimp has to be light.Just finished my first batch of 9mm handloads and I'm feeling pretty good about it. Using Hodgdon Titegroup and I managed to get the OAL just right. Anyone have tips on optimizing the crimp?
Get a wilson case gauge and crimp until it fits in the gauge then take your barrel out of your gun hold up with chamber facing up and drop your crimped round into the chamber it should go plunk also make sure the case rim is just below the barrel hood.I just started handloading 9mm too, Hodgdon Titegroup worked well for me, and I spent a lot of time dialing in the OAL...I struggle a bit with crimps though
