What 20 ga shotgun do you all recommend for Skeet shooting in the $1500 or less range. Seems most of my research does not really specify skeet. I have plenty of Trap shotguns and they do just OK on the skeet field. But I want better! I know some might say any shotgun as long as you place the shot where the clay is going to be! And what pattern do you think. My Browning shoots about a 90/10. And on another note, if you got one for sale, I'm still looking!

Have you considered a CZ or a gently used Browning or Beretta over/under? They generally swing faster, mount more easily, and are much more forgiving on the skeet field than a long trap scattergun. I’d choose skeet or improved-cylinder chokes, pattern them at real skeet distances, and go for lighter loads to enhance control and follow-through.

I've not been able to find any used 20 ga skeet shotguns. And what I think I'm having to do is go with 20 Ga Companion tube set for $700 from Briely. I have a Browning725 shorter barrel that shoots both trap & skeet. Even my cheap Tristar does well in both. Trap I shoot the Tristar 7/8 OZ 7.5 Shot @1300 FPS.

The Turkish made over/under shotguns (Savage/Stephens, etc.) seem to work really well on the skeet range and don’t break the bank.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I just ended up with a new shotgun from Scheels. What a nightmare it was to order with their so-called Price Match and their shipping. I ended up with a Weatherby Orion Sporting.
It's a long story, but I might type it out later to tell you about the B.S. I went through in getting a price match. I will tell you this, however. It was ordered on Tuesday Morning, Got a message it was ready for pick around noon. I called the shipping and told them it was to be shipped to my local FFL. On the 24th I got another email saying it was ready for Pick up. I called again. Was told it might not go out till Monday the 29th due to Christmas. As of this Sat morning the 27th. still not shipped.

PLUS when I get the invoice they have charged my card yet another $50 for FFL Transfer. I called and told them it is being shipped to my FFL and I have to pay them for the FFL Paperwork. They told me it was their policy to charge everyone the $50 regardless. I told them I think that is illegal to charge me for an FFL when I'm not there in person to fill out and sign the form. Again, I was told POLICY.
So, I don't know if it will do any good. But I will be contacting the ATF and ask them about it. Heck might even get a Class Action Law Suit against them for ripping off customers for their so-called policy.
What do you all think?

At this point, I would tell them to keep the shotgun and I would pick one up on Gunbroker or have my local dealer order one for me.

Seems like whenever something doesn’t make any sense, it becomes “policy”. It’s simply another way for them to stick their hand into your pocket.
I would explain my “policy” to that dealer which is not doing business with dishonest vendors. I would cancel this order and buy one from a reputable dealer like Bud’s Gun Shop.

I’ve never done any business with Scheels but I’m adding them to my boycott list on general principle.

If I don't get a tracking number by Monday PM, I will more than likely cancel for sure

Follow up Drama with SCHEELS. So, here comes Monday and no tracking #. The guy I dealt with was out. The kid I talked to told me the holdup was the FFL License from my FFL dealer here in Sierra Vista. "What could be the hold up? You got a copy of his license Tuesday morning." His reply was, "We have to make sure his license is legitimate!" WHAT !, "a little more conversation which I won't go into and bore you." Long story short, "I tell you what, you keep your shotgun, and I will be getting a hold of Corporate once again." Just a min he said. He came back about 4 mins later, and said my boss told me it would go out today and we are refunding the $50 FFL charge. Again, I asked so what day will I get it and I want a tracking number. "I can't give you a tracking number. You will have to have your FFL dealer call us and we can give it to him." WHAT! I proceeded to tell him that I got a tracking number in my email for the charge on my FFL which makes absolutely no sense. So, shorten this drama, I told him if not here by Monday, I will inform West End Pawn Shop to REFUSE it if not there by COB! "I forgot West End is Closed on Monday" so it will now be Tuesday
I do believe this will be my last purchase with Scheels. I might even cancel my Scheels Credit card and go back to the Discover Card where I get cash back instead of the Scheels Gift Cards. At which time I have $100 worth in my desk drawer and have yet get what I think another is due me shortly. We charge basically between $2,000 to $2500 per month. (pay it off ever month in full) here at Christmas time with car & Home insurance, plus gifts it was $3500 Plus the $1150 for the shotgun. I'm guessing I will get another $100 gift card by the time I close the account. (actually, won't close, just quit using it) May do a follow up Tuesday

Follow up 01/01/2026
Well, I guess my threat to call the Corp. office made them think twice. I was refunded the $50 for the FFL fee and they must have overnighted it. As I got the call from Jim at West End Pawn at 11:45 AM telling me my shotgun was in and ready for pick up.

It’s a shame you have to endure all that BS when you buy something from Scheels. After hearing of your experience, I won’t be doing any business with them. Too many other honest dealers to buy from.

I like Discover. I’ve had one of their cards since the ‘80s. The few times I’ve had disputes with merchants, Discover customer service has quickly removed the charges in question. I like the cashback feature too. It’s like getting a gift from them each month.

Hopefully, things will be better this year. Happy New Year !!!!

And Happy New year to you Ken. I can't wait till Saturday to hit the range and give this a break in on some Skeet shooting. At first mount, it feels like it might be a good fit.
As far as Discover Credit Card goes, yes, I've had excellent dealing with Discover as well. I still use it, just not nearly enough. I do think I will go back since the cash back is even connected to my AMAZON Account. And like you said, any dispute, and CASH BACK is great. They are right on it in both cases!

I hope your new shotgun works well for you, Al. Let me know what you think of it after you shoot it.

Now that the hunts are finished, I’ll be putting a few cameras back out on the ranch. Feel like doing some trail riding?
